A nice tutorial for
giving digital photos a realistic look using Fireworks.
I gave it a whirl with a random Georgetown photo and here's the results:
I actually upadated the photoblog thing with pictures from the Red River Gorge trip today.
The average size for a photo is 90k so they may take awhile to load.
Here's the quicklinks for my Red River Gorge Pictures:

Went to the Red River Gorge today. I was impressed with the zoom on the
Canon Powershot S2, probably because I've never had a camera with much zoom. It's not too shabby.
It's got a 12x optical zoom and up to 48x digital zoom.
I figured out how to view the exif data for my photos recently (right click photo->properties->summary tab->advanced), however I was disappointed because it doesn't list the zoom level in the exif data. Maybe it's the focal length?
I was still pleased with some of the results. If zoom is focal length, this sample picture was at 72mm.
Here's half moon at red river gorge, taken from chimney rock, with a zoomed picture cropped and placed on top of it for perspective:

I tried another light bulb for my
photolab project.
Thinking maybe a "white light" with a higher wattage from the grocery would do the trick, it didn't.
The end result with a 150 watt white light light bulb was pictures that still turn out yellow.
I guess my next attempt will be with the proper lighting.
I'm trying to set up a small place to take photos even when it's night time.
I want to do it cheap, so I found an old desk swivel light in the closet and set up a few pieces of paper for my background and tested things out.
I was also using a standard 100 watt GE light bulb, which doesn't work well. In fact I believe that normal light bulbs give off a yellow tint, which isn't very noticeable until you photograph it.
A few pictures turned out alright, however the yellow tint was unbearable. Here's example 1:

But here's another shot, notice the awful yellow tint:

And here's the most basic setup you can come by:

So I believe I will get some poster board to make a better background and definitely look into alternatives for lighting. Here is the
lighting style recommended (500watt ect bulb) in this
diy photo tutorial.
I'm not sure about ordering one, but I may see what the grocery store has to offer sometime this week.

Who knew such interesting pictures could be accomplished by tossing a camera:

I'm guessing a slow shudder speed with the timer set to expire, followed by a good toss gives the result. (photo credit:

Maybe you'll get to these links before me Jen? One of us needs too :-)

Ill be coding my own photoblog

My camera takes some very nice video as well. While I havent given much thought on how to publish video on the web, I wanted to note one more bookmark:

The gf is taking the camera to Michigan this week, so I should have plenty of time to code.
Time to code a photoblog! FINALLY purchased a new digital camera, the Canon PowerShot S2.
Heres the first photo ever taken with the camera:
And one from the first series of shots Jen took (using the built in color accent):
